Ruth Parker Art Exhibit Press Release

April 4, 2003

The Holocaust Center, Boston North Inc. is pleased to announce that The Holocaust Series, twelve paintings by artist Ruth Parker, will be on exhibit through April at the Center’s Gallery in the Peabody Institute Library, 82 Main St., Peabody.

The paintings vividly trace the history of the Holocaust. The first, entitled “Scrub a dub” is of Jewish men, women, and children on their hands and knees scrubbing cobblestones. Another is of people wearing signs, “Kosher Meat For Sale”.

Many of the other paintings deal with various forms of dehumanization and murder as interpreted by the artist --cattle cars, a growling dog, the boots of an SS guard. Kristalnacht, the Night of the Broken Glass, has images of a burning synagogue with flames engulfing a mother holding her baby, a Torah scroll, and a prayer shawl. “Shades” memorializes the victims.

The collection in its entirety can be viewed during regular library hours. For further information please call 978-531-8288.
