Eric Kahn
I was born in 1929 Wiesbaden, Germany.
In Nov. 1938, my father was imprisoned in Dachau for 5 weeks. We were unable to escape to the U.S. because their quota number was 25,000. In Feb. 1945, my father, brother, aunt and I were deported to Thereisenstadt in Czechoslvakia. My mother was spared because of her Christian background. Though Thereisenstadt was not an extermination camp, 35,000 died there from starvation and disease and 140,000 passed through en route to Auschwitz.
My most vivid memory was the fear of being separated from my father. They nearly starved us to death, but my father suffered most because he was a diabetic.
On May 8, 1945, the SS fled with the arrival of the Russians. We came to the U.S. in July 1946. I am married to an American, Ruth Kahn. We have 2 children, Lisa and Mark and a beautiful granddaughter.
