Art Projects on the Holocaust

January  8, 2007

Re:  Art Projects on the Holocaust

Dear Friend:

On April 11, 2007 at the annual community-wide Interfaith Commemoration of the Holocaust at Peabody High School, Peabody, MA, we will once again present an art exhibit on the Holocaust by area students focusing on the theme:  Six Million Memories.

Students should be encouraged to memorialize the Holocaust through their own interpretations of this evil piece of history (i.e., paintings, poetry, murals, etc.). We are pleased to invite your students to participate in this unique art exhibit. This is not a contest.

Please follow these simple guidelines:

1. Teachers may choose, at their own discretion, appropriate art. (There are no restrictions on the numbers.)

2. Student’s name, grade, school and year should be prominently displayed on the front right bottom corner. Written student interpretations of their art are welcome.

3. Entries should not be made with barbed wire, other possibly dangerous materials, or loose particles. It is suggested that images of swastikas and guns be downplayed.

4. Art should preferably be no larger than ½ a large piece of poster board.

5. Entries should be dropped off at The Holocaust Center no later than March 30, 2007.  Later drop off times can be arranged if necessary.

Please call or return the tear-off sheet indicating your participation as soon as possible in order to facilitate newspaper, radio and television publicity.

We look forward to sharing this exciting experience with you and your students. If you have any questions, please call the Center at (978) 531-8288.

Selected art will be displayed at The Holocaust Center Art Gallery after April 11th, 2007 or may tour with a traveling exhibit.  All art becomes the permanent property of The Holocaust Center unless indicated at the time of submission.
